Inaugural Meeting 2007 Hannover                                         Open Day - IGS Roderbruch Hannover

Success at school is dependent on home surroundings to a high degree. It follows that children with educationally disadvantaged parents, especially those from families with a background of migration, have less educational opportunities. The support of parental involvement, above all the increased involvement of parents with a background of migration, has remained a marginal topic in Teacher Education and In-Service Education throughout Europe. With regard to demographic developments in the EU countries, we have increasingly got to look for ways of giving parents opportunities to take on responsibility for their children's work and life at school. Working with those parents from educationally disadvantaged social classes, resp. with a background of migration, is not a national, but rather a European problem.
